flickr friday - hine

this image popped up in my flickr group this week, and i have to admit, i was intrigued. the image was from hine, who is one of my favorite felt artists on etsy. (and since teaching my husband how to use my favorites list, i got one of her brooches last christmas!)

anyway, i was so interested in just what the heck had been going on in hine's photostream that i clicked through and discovered that she had done a stop-motion video for they might be giants. now, i admit that i love any type of stop motion animation, but this video just made me smile the entire time i was watching. it's well worth the time, so definitely take a minute to watch.

hine's etsy shop is just as wonderful - right now, i am totally obsessed with her camera cases - although i am so hard on my camera i would be afraid to use the case for fear of hurting it! if you like them as much as i do, get it quick - she only makes a few of each.

check out hine on etsy, or on flickr. i promise you'll smile, too.

flickr friday - Hasenpfeffer Incorporated

i'm starting something new today... one of the things i love best about this community (aside from the depth and breadth of the talent and the way crafters become "friends" even from across the continent or around the globe) is the fact that each and every day i can find something new and handmade to just make me smile. that warm and fuzzy feeling, y'know? well, now every friday i'm going to share things that make me smile with you.

first up: Hasenpfeffer Incorporated. i came across Daniela and Chris's amazing textural plush with their intense-but-subdued color and i-must-pinch-their-cheeks faces a few months ago on flickr and fell in love. they're just the right combination of kawaii, folk, and vintage, and i want every single one of them. even better, they're made from re-purposed clothing! i even love their shop announcement:
After washing it, we breathe new life into it. Bits of an old wool coat may awaken as a wombat. A parakeet in polyester? Perfectly normal! You may even find a little linen in a llama if you look hard enough.
check out Hasenpfeffer Incorporated on etsy, or on flickr. i promise you'll smile.

thinking...

it's been raining, and dreary, and we've been getting lots of bad news lately. not for us, personally, but just all around us. so i'm spending some time thinking... i started looking back through old pictures, and found this one. it's from just about 5 years ago, i was just married, and i was traveling. i was so happy, so much to look forward to, nothing seemed impossible to overcome or achieve. sometimes it seems like everyone's (not only our) lives are so packed with busy-ness that we never have time to just think, enjoy, or just be. gah. what kind of morose blog entry is this, anyway? we're all really very lucky, we just need to take the time to think about it.

etsy-versary

considering the very prominent role etsy plays in many of our lives, it's no wonder many of us like to celebrate our "etsy-versaries." (i wonder how long it will be before there are actually cards for this event?) i signed up for an etsy account a year ago, having looked and looked for awhile before but never committing, and have been having a great time ever since.

i didn't open my shop until september, but hey, any reason to celebrate, right? 10% off in the shop now!

thanks etsy, and etsians, you guys are the best! oh, and that awesome button? by allegrae.

we had a fantastic week away, and i'm feeling feisty... and ready to play a game! if you know where this photo was taken, and be specific, post it in a comment, and i'll give the first person to get it a $10 gift certificate to the shop. if no one gets it right by june 1st, i'll draw a winner from the comments.

good luck!

just between us

Just Between Us is a solo exhibit of drawings by local artist and curator (and friend!) Jackie Milad.
Exhibition: May 15 - June 15, 2008
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 15 from 7-9 p.m.
The exhibit will include catalogues for sale and a catalogue essay by Jack Livingston.

“Ms. Milad's exuberant andro-fem figures mix archetypes, channeling the likes of Nefertiti, Carolee Schneemann and Courtney Love into one timeless sweetly odd and transgressive "her". They possess a fairy-tale power similar to the late works of the poet Ann Sexton.”-Excerpt from review in Peek Review, by Jack Livingston.
